Project abstract

The project is focused on the research and development of the technological process for hardening of grinding wheels up to the outside diameter of 1000 mm in energy efficient furnaces with the aim of achieving the required maximum shape and dimensional stability, and accuracy of grinding wheels for grinding large-sized bearing rings.

The planned goal will be achieved by implementing the innovative advanced technology of the grinding wheel hardening process in an energy efficient heating furnace, namely thanks to a newly developed control system in cooperation with the project partner UWB in Pilsen.

The developed control system within the innovative hardening process will allow a temperature regulation in the required tolerance and temperature gradient so that, the thermal stress arising during heating of the grinding wheels was maximally eliminated using the influence of uniform heating. This will lead to the minimization of unwanted deformations of the wheels during their production. An important factor for the main applicant will be the reduction of production costs due to the newly developed control system for temperature regulation in the energy efficient hardening furnace. The applicant predicts significant savings in the area of energy consumption and in the reduction of wastefulness, which also brings significant material savings. Another positive factor generated by the project results will be an increase in productivity and production efficiency measured by the OEE indicator.

Achieving all the planned results and goals of the project will generate for the applicant significant economic benefits, and at the same time its competitiveness on the international market in the segment of grinding wheel manufacturers will be strengthened to a significant extent.
